Isn’t it interesting that so many people’s first priority when it comes to equality is violence against women?

It really shows you what’s on men’s minds as far as equality goes.

What this really shows you though is how violent patriarchal masculinity is and how it manifests itself into the lives of men.

It’s so scary because this is one of the top responses I get from men regarding feminism and equality between men and women.

Like…they want to be able to beat up a woman without going to jail for it. They want to be able to force a woman to have sex with them without, and I quote, “Having her cry rape every single time and getting people thrown in prison”.

Like this is what you consider equality? You want us to be equal so you can be openly abusive without reproach?

That’s fucked up on so many levels I can’t even…

Cleared of Charges of Setting Off a School Explosion, Florida Honor Student Heads to Space Camp

Kiera Wilmot is going to space camp.

In late April, the 16-year-old central Florida honor student was accused of igniting a chemical explosion on school grounds, leading to her arrest and suspension from school, but authorities dropped criminal charges last week.

The nightmarish ordeal was shocking for her single mother, Marie Wilmot, who always encouraged Kiera and her twin sister, Kayla, to follow their passions.

“The initial phone call was terrifying,” Marie told ABC News. “Time will help I hope, it was devastating for me as a mother.”

While school officials debate whether Kiera will return to Bartow High School, the Wilmot family received an unexpected surprise.

The explosion struck a chord with 18-year NASA veteran Homer Hickam, a former lead astronaut training manager for Spacelab, and later for the International Space Station.

In the late 1950s, Hickam had a brush with law enforcement for allegedly starting a forest fire. State police came to his high school and led him and his friends away in handcuffs, but his high school physics professor and school principal came to the rescue, clearing him of wrongdoing.

Back then, schools did not have zero tolerance rules. Kids could make their mistakes without the threat of a criminal record, or serving time in jail.

“I couldn’t let this go without doing something,” Hickam said. “I’m not a lawyer, but I could give her something that would encourage her. I’ve worked closely with the U.S. Space Academy, and so I purchased a scholarship for her.”

Learning of her twin sister, Hickam raised enough money so Kiera and Kayla could attend space camp together. Hickam runs several scholarships for kids with potential, and hopes to create an ongoing Space Academy scholarship. The twins will attend in July.

Roy Mustang just keeps it all inside. You can see why he didn’t handle the death of Maes Hughes well at all. He tries very hard to repress his most poisonous emotions.

Thirty seconds to forget that he’s a young man with feelings and emotions and a heart, and he does it. It’s thirty seconds to convince himself he’s a monster and this is what he does, and thirty seconds to turn all his anger and rage and hatred inwards and then outwards again, that last distraught raise of his brows before he screws his eyes shut and reminds himself he’s a weapon and this is a war and then a pure and blinding fury takes over.

Because I seem to be in a Red Robin obsessive mood today. Sometimes, you just want some awesome Batfamily moments and Marcus To’s gorgeous art, okay?

But seriously, I think my obsession with the Batfamily reaches dangerous levels sometimes. Is it wrong that I want to reach out and hug every single person in this scene? So much snark! So much adorableness! GAHHHH I JUST LOVE THEM ALL SO MUCH, OKAY?

I really love the interaction between Tim and Damian here. Because it genuinely feels like the dynamic between real brothers. Not in the same way that Dick and Tim are brotherly, where everything is adorable jokes and hugs and fraternal advice. But in a way which is equally realistic. Because not all siblings get along. Some siblings are jealous and threatened by each other and they express it by pushing each other’s buttons. And it makes perfect sense that Tim and Damian would be that way. They both have very legitimate reasons for resenting each other.

I guess what I love here is the contrast. Tim is the smart, responsible older brother. He’s polite. He’s good-natured. He gets along easily with all of the people Damian wishes he could get along with. Damian doesn’t know how to interact with other people without being prickly. He doesn’t know how to thank Alfred for making him breakfast without making (admittedly hilarious) sarcastic comments.

People don’t tend to think of Tim this way because he’s so serious and mature, but he was the baby of the family before Damian came along. And then suddenly along comes this kid, who not only seems like he’s out to replace Tim’s role in the family, who also has the gall to act like he’s better than Tim. And deep down, Tim is just insecure enough to secretly think that Damian might be right. So it’s almost reassuring to him to see that everyone finds Damian just as annoying as he does. Thus his comment to Alfred.

Damian, for his part, is smart enough to pick up on the casual superiority in Tim’s attitude, but the only way he knows to respond is by playing the bratty little brother role in return and telling Tim not to touch his food. (I was going to make a comment about how what Damian is actually saying is “Don’t touch the important people in my life”, but then I realized that that was reading a bit too deeply into things, even for me.)

I… I think I just analyzed way more meaning into this than was originally intended, but. What I meant to say is that I love how natural and realistic the family dynamics are here. They truly feel like an actual family. That’s what I love the most about the Batfam.

Luanna’s interpretation of Tim and Damian’s antagonistic relationship really hits the mark as far as I’m concerned. Tim’s insecurity is interesting because we hear him praised so often by several sources, even by Batman himself. However, it’s usually others conversing about him rather than telling him directly how impressed they are by his brilliant young mind. His prowess is less ostentatious than that of his siblings; he’s a competent fighter, of course, but he’s more notably a mental powerhouse, and his work is closer to the chest by necessity. He must sometimes feel that his efforts are overlooked, his contributions less visible than the physical feats of his peers.

It’s not at all to say that Tim is a glory-hound, but he is a young man with a guardian whose approval is infamously difficult to procure. Damian is eagerly outspoken when it comes to identifying Tim’s flaws, and like Luannna says, Tim’s nature is such that he begins to believe the insults born of petty rivalry.

On a happier note: “Dick in the JLA. That still sounds weird, but in a good way.” One brother may be a perpetual thorn in his side, but it sounds like Tim’s quite proud of the other. :)
