In “The Library” the Sandbenders are based on the Tusken Raiders aka Sandpeople from Star Wars and the ‘lantern’ above the door looks like a Death Star.
The ice cage Katara ends up in when she loses the fight against Pakku is an homage to the bamboo cage in House of the Flying Daggers. As is the ‘Dai Li hanging upside down from the cave’ scene at the end of season two.
Zuko and Aang’s discovering the dragon egg in the temple visually mirrors the beginning of “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark”
The episode ‘Zuko Alone’ is an homage to: Red Harvest - Yojimbo - A Fistful of dollars i.e.A noir novel, made into a Samurai movie, made into an Italio-Western, made into an A:TLA Western.
Godzilla and Princess Mononoke
When the Ocean Spirit posesses Aang and drowns the Fire Nation fleet, it turns into an homage to Gozilla and the forest spirit (aka the nightwalker) from Princess Mononoke.
Sokka: Simple: girls are better at fixing pants than guys, and guys are better at hunting and fighting and stuff like that. It’s just the natural order of things.
I love that Sokka’s first big character development was having the sexism knocked out of him.
Hey, that reminds me. A solar eclipse is caused when the moon blots out the sun.
Yue is the moon spirit.
That means Yue was helping with the invasion.

anyway, I was planning to draw this for really a WHILE, I had some doodles of them genderbent, but I didn’t consider them good enough I guess.. Since I was always not satisfied with Katara’s look or Sokka’s.
But this time ofasjdasdkh omg yes, I love this ‘Kataro’. Sokka would probably stay fabulous with her stylish boomerang. Boomerang girl, isn’t it nice?
Toph and Aang would probably be like the exact same.
