I realize that there is no way I can change Korra’s problematic dialogue out of the first episode—that line about how non-benders are just oppressing themselves—because of two reasons.
One, it would set her down a path of not-learning. She is wrong, and she should remain so until she learns that she is at fault for not addressing the real problem. Even if she gets some insight about the issue from another character before she confronts the Equalist in the park, she’s not got all the angles, and she absolutely needs to get knowledge from everywhere to see how she needs to fix the issue as the Avatar.
Two, I really want to keep her that flawed person. Wouldn’t it be just flat out boring if she had that insight at the start of the season? I thought it was bold as brass for the creators to make her be so completely off the mark about what the problem really is, and I’m sure as fuck not going to change it.
In summary: Korra is still going to be saying dumbass things in Kaisei.
